Western Canada Fire & First Aid’s first aid course is designed for those individuals who live or work in areas where the availability of emergency medical services may be delayed and for those trying to meet government regulations. First aid training is a great skill set that can be applied in various situations – at work and at home.

Intermediate First Aid provides comprehensive training covering all aspects of first aid and CPR. This course is for those who want an in-depth understanding of first aid such as: medical/legal aspects, spinal injuries, environmental injuries, bone and joint injuries, abdominal and chest injuries, burns, and medical emergencies. Includes CPR-C and AED certification.
Length: 16 hours – Approximately 8 hours (both days)
Certificate: Valid for three years. Participants may re-certify with the 1 day recertification course any time before their current Intermediate First Aid certificate expires.
Prerequisite: Must be at least 14 years of age with consent of parent or guardian.
Cost: $150.00 + GST
Intermediate First Aid Recertification

The recertification class is intended for those individuals who have kept up with their knowledge and who are regularly practicing or utilizing their skills. Western Canada Fire & First Aid’s Intermediate First Aid course follows the new CSA standards Z1210-17 and the “Alberta Plus” standards. This course includes level C CPR (Adult, child & Infant).
A student who is unsuccessful and whose certification has expired will need to complete Western Canada Fire & First Aid Inc.’s two-day Intermediate First Aid program.

Intermediate First Aid Recertification is a challenge of both theory and practical examination of all skills. Individuals using another Alberta workplace approved intermediate first aid as a prerequisite to recertify must provide proof of current certification in order to be eligible to recertify (e.g. copy of certification card). Individuals who are no longer current cannot recertify and must attend an original course. Individuals who are unsuccessful in completing a Intermediate First Aid Recertification course are required to complete an original course. No repeat recertification courses are permitted.
Length: 8 hours (1 day)
Certificate: Valid for three years. Participants may re-certify with the 1 day recertification course any time before their current Intermediate First Aid certificate expires.

Covers all aspects of CPR skills and theory for adult, child, and infant casualties, including two-rescuer CPR skills. CPR-C includes an introduction to the purpose of an AED and how they are used. CPR-C is included in Standard First Aid.

Medical First Responder Training (MFR)
Saga’s Medical First Responder (MFR) training course is designed for emergency responders such as firefighters, peace officers, search and rescue teams, community based volunteer groups, and company emergency response teams.
Fully aligned with Alberta Emergency Health Services (EHS) MFR Program requirements, this training course goes beyond Intermediate First Aid to cover MFR legislation, medical protocols, enhanced skills, High-Performance Basic Life Support, and practical skills review and evaluation.
