PFA TESTING ALBERTA

The PARE is out and the PFA (Police Fitness Assessment) is IN for the RCMP!

Blue Line Fitness Testing is the ONLY location in Alberta where you can try it all out and practice this new standard!

Police Fitness Assessment Participant Information

The Police Fitness Assessment (PFA) is used to assess the physical abilities associated with law enforcement training and duties. It is a series of tests that represent multiple scenarios encountered by law enforcement officers. These tests include: a foot pursuit, an equipment load and patient evacuation, and a physical control scenario which are described below.

If pre-test heart rate is above 99bpm and/or pre-test blood pressure is above 160/90 mmHG, a practice session may be postponed. Additionally, if there are any significant changes in your health, you have a new illness or injury, or are taking any new medications on a regular basis since obtaining medical clearance, your practice session may be postponed to consult with a medical professional prior to completing PFA.

    • Prior to completion of PFA on assessment day, participants must abide by the following conditions:
    • Be physically active for at least 4-6 weeks (3-5 days of cardio training per week at a moderate to vigorous level)
    • Abstain from smoking for at least 2 hours
    • Abstain from caffeine products for at least 2 hours
    • Abstain from the use of short acting bronchodilators for at least 2 hours
    • Abstain from alcohol for at least 6 hours
    • Abstain from using any stimulants for at least 24 hours (ie ephedrine, pseudoephedrine, ephedra, etc.)
    • Abstain from any vigorous exercise within 24 hours
