This episode of Sirens, Slammers and Service features a true trailblazer—Katie Gordon, the first-ever female firefighter with Prince George Fire Rescue. 🚒🔥

Katie shares the incredible journey that led her there—starting in law enforcement in 2000, spending seven years in corrections, and ultimately finding her calling in the fire service where she’s now built an 11-year career. We talk about what it meant to step into a role where female mentorship barely existed at the time, and how that experience fueled her passion to give back through initiatives like Camp Ignite, helping inspire and mentor the next generation of women firefighters.

The conversation also dives into the unique structure of Prince George Fire, where every firefighter is fully Emergency Medical Responder qualified, the reality of 24-hour shift rotations, and the teamwork required to serve their community.

Outside the firehall, Katie is helping build community in another way—co-founding the 1697s Rugby Club, a first responder rugby group, and supporting the growth of the Aurora Wolves youth rugby program, which is expanding across Northern BC thanks to regional development and new funding.
